Sikhs Sing National Anthems at Raptors Vaisakhi Game

Its been a good year so far for Sikhs and Canadian sports. First, we’ve had NHL regular season and playoff games broadcast in Punjabi. We’ve also the first NBA game broadcast in Punjabi. And this year, at the annual Vaisakhi game for the Toronto Raptors, four good looking Sardars sang the Canadian and American national anthems. Performing on drums is Jiwanjot Singh Gill, on dilruba Harman Singh, on dhol is “Tabla Guy“, Gurpreet Singh Chana, and on vocals and harmonium, Dr. Onkar Singh.

Really cool that they had the chance to do this!!

Unfortunately, I think both anthems sounded terrible. Drums and dhol have no place in anthems.

Good for them! If it wasn't how you'd want to do it, go learn and do it how you would.

The visibility and engagement with mass audiences these 4 achieved nationally, culturally, socially do justice to Guru Nanak Dev Ji's janam sakhi instructing us to "Khilar jaoo".

It might not be my style either. I am a sucker for the dilruba. I would have paired it with an electric guitar and done a duet, back and forth. I would have done the same with tabla and drums to show how we all feel the same about music and the words being sung no matter what the instrument (or person) looks like.

If any of you 4 Singhs are reading, well done. It is most often the case that the people being talked about are the ones doing something. Hope you guys can land more gigs in the future.

    SAT SRI AKAL JI,

UNTIL THE WHITEMEN STOP THEIR FEMINIST NONSENSE, THERE CAN BE NO TALK WITH THEM. THERE ARE OTHER MAJOR POINTS OF DISAGREEMENT, SUCH AS PRE MARITAL RELATIONS AND FAST FOOD.

BUT UNTIL THE INSANE WHITEMEN FORCE FEMINISM UPON US, WE CAN'T EVEN HAVE A DIALOGUE WITH THEM!!!!

    SAT SRI AKAL!!!
