Here is a report by “Voice Of America” that takes a look at the Sikh Inaugural Ball (Publius covered it earlier here) as part of the Indian-American take on the Obama inauguration story. An interesting perspective following the recent discussion on the TLH post: Sikh or Indian?.
Thoughts?
Again, why Sikhs should be defined with Hindu proverbial identities such as Bhartiya, Hindustani, deshbhagati, "Bharata ka naam roshan"?

Good question H.Singh … do you think it’s the same case in India?

Phulkari,
Of course, The rhetoric in India echoes equivocation of Hindu and Indian. And, why it shouldn't be Hindu means Indian.
The problem with our Sikh understanding is that we are told by the upper caste Hindu elite of India that Hindu is a religion ONLY, and interestingly, Sikhs have swallowed the Hindu spoon without questioning what is on it.
Conformation towards the Hindu standards is the goal of Indian Nationalism, its Hindu Media and Hindu Politicians that is spoon-fed to masses. Sikhs are a easy prey of swallowing-up this Hindu ideology because Sikhs although believe that they are humanist always lean more towards the upper-caste Hindu in terms of loyalty over humanity.
