Sikh Events on 1984
As we like to keep our readers updated, I wanted to let you know about some current events that you shouldn’t miss as well as some programs and resources that you can do with your own family and friends in your hometown.
- The Jakara Movement conference: “Remember 1984: Reflect. Respond. React.” With limited days remaining, register BEFORE THURSDAY (June 4th, 2009) to avoid the late fee. I have written about it in the past. You won’t want to miss it.
- Last week, I wrote about the “Sukhmani Sahib for the Shaheeds” project. You can participate in your hometown by arranging a Sukhmani Sahib this weekend. Be part of a national group and download the packet from here. The packet contains, instructions, other upcoming events, and a special Benti to be read during the Ardas. Even if you can’t make it to Fresno for the conference, honor the memory of our Shaheeds through Sukhmani Sahib.
- Finally Sikh organizations have come together to off for free the Sikhs’ Kristallnacht booklet to educate Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike:
An open call to all Sikh organizations planning 1984 events!
The Jakara Movement, Sikh American Legal Defense & Education Fund (SALDEF), Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI), Sikh Youth of America (SYA), and The Sikh Coalition have come together to print Sikhs’ Kristallnacht: 25 Years On and are willing to distribute it to the entire community free of charge.
Contact us about your 1984 event, provide us the number you need, and help us educate Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike. Together in this 25th year of commemoration, we stand in solidarity for justice as we “Remember 1984”.

If you’re having an event send us an email so that we can post it here on The Langar Hall. Despite call by the mainstream Indian media and even some Sikhs that ‘we should forget,’ we also stand in solidarity, as we REMEMBER 1984.

In UK we've got the annual protest this Sunday. With it being 25 years its going to be huge. I know some feel that these types of protests have served their purpose in the past but the amount of youth that are inspired and become Gursikhs because of it is amazing. So i do feel it still serves a purpose and it also allows us to unite.
on 13 June, there will be the final ardas for the 1 million Chaupai Sahib jaaps done worldwide. Its amazing to know that the 1 million figure as already been met and the panth is still continuing. This amazing uprala by youth to do these jaaps in honour of the Shaheeds of 1984 and for the Chardikala of the panth has had a profound effect no only on the youth but on elders too. The amazing thing is that we've already massed the 1million mark.

Education makes people able to think in a broader perspective rather than makes them conservative and narrow mind. It is considered to be the co relation between illiterate people and conservative mind.
