I wondered about the racism in the uk. How many medals would we have won had we relied on indigenous English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish people to compete. Surely this is indicative of how we as a British nation have assimulated our foreigners into our society and how they should be appreciated. Please reply to me at mail@iain-rossmacleod.co.uk as I believe we must do all we can to promote racial harmony in the UK of GB & NI.

As gleaned from theglobeandmail.com:

Jasvir Singh from Canada finished 12th in the 62kg (or 56kg?) men's Olympic weightlifting competition.

Jasvir Singh was a 2008 Pan American Championships gold medallist, and is a three-time Canadian champion (2006, 2007, 2008).

He is a former member of the Indian weightlifting team. He immigrated to Canada in 2002.

Point of interest: Sikh kids (boys and girls) in Surrey are ripping it up in weightlifting competitions. Most of these kids are coached by Makhan Singh Sandhu (Khalsa School Surrey Weightlifting Club/Lion's Weightlifting Club).

If these kids keep going the way they have, I think we'll be seeing at least some of them in upcoming Olympic games. Very awesome.

Abhinav Bindra is not a sikh. [because Hapreet Singh says so!..anyways, Harpreet, think before you begin calling people 'race traitors.' Such labels are stupid, juvenile, and only end up getting deleted. Have a nice day....Admin Singh]

That was a gracious response. This is not meant as a criticism but should be taken in the spirit that I wrote it.I find that the knowledge that Sikhs abroad have about their motherland i.e India is somewhat lacking. In the age of the information super-highway this should not be so. I enjoin all of you to brush up you knowledge of things Indian .If I can help in any way I'll be only too glad to do so. I can volunteer to send you information about Sikh sportspersons in India to start with.

I applaud your spirit !
