Stupid or Evil?

As the debate over the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” wages on in the media with plenty of misinformation and a whole lot of fear-mongering, we finally get some worthwhile news from The Daily Show on the subject.

The Parent Company Trap
www.thedailyshow.com

You don’t have to look much beyond the comments here on The Langar Hall to see that Muslim-hating is seriously on the rise.  Here’s a few quotes responding to my last post on the subject of the Park51 Islamic Community Center in June:

“We all know what Pisslam is. The religion of murder.. ”
“BUILD THE DAMN MOSQUE….I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU. LETS SEE HOW LONG IT STANDS.”
“If Islam couldn’t hide behind the word “religion” it would be hounded out of all civilized nations for the hate spewing Evil that it is.”
“now NYC, the most beautiful city in the world is being corrupted by these parasites…”

A pastor in Florida is planning on hosting a “Burn Quran Day” next month, and the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attack will be commemorated with even more hatred in New York City in a protest of the Park51 plans organized by the so-called “human rights group” Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), headed by Pamela Geller, aka the Queen of Muslim Bashers.

Many are coming together to denounce the dangerous rise in Muslim hating, including an interfaith coalition (including Sikhs) I just heard about in Stamford, CT, and a broad-based movement in NYC that is planning a Rally for Unity and Solidarity with Muslim People on 9/11.

Interfaith efforts, unity, and solidarity are what we need more than ever right now.  Fox News and the right are interested in none of these.  I guess the jury is still out on whether it’s their stupidity or their evil intentions (or both) that motivates their divisive and hateful misinformation.

Speak it, brother. If anyone speaks of a 'post-racial world', we don't have to look much further than this conversation which seems to have become a global discussion. I'll be downtown on the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. I welcome those who engage in conversation in the pursuit of understanding. For those who pursue dominance, I suggest another location. Plurality is our interest. Equality is our passion.

just heard this horrible news that a NYC cab driver was just stabbed in the throat after a passenger asked him if he was muslim: http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/124338/pol

    >20 %

After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

    Ethiopia — Muslim 32.8%

    >40 %

At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:

    Bosnia — Muslim 40%
    Chad — Muslim 53.1%
    Lebanon — Muslim 59.7%
    >60 %

From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels:

    Albania — Muslim 70%
    Malaysia — Muslim 60.4%
    Qatar — Muslim 77.5%
    Sudan — Muslim 70%

    1-2 % :–

As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:

    United States — Muslim 1.0%

    Australia — Muslim 1.5%

    Canada — Muslim 1.9%

    China — Muslim 1%-2%

    Italy — Muslim 1.5%

    Norway — Muslim 1.8%

    2-3 % :–

At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:

    Denmark — Muslim 2%

    Germany — Muslim 3.7%

    United Kingdom — Muslim 2.7%

    Spain — Muslim 4%

    Thailand — Muslim 4.6%

    >5 %

From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. They will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply.

    France — Muslim 8%

    Philippines — Muslim 5%

    Sweden — Muslim 5%

    Switzerland — Muslim 4.3%

    The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%

    Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

    >10 %

When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris — car burnings, etc.). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amsterdam — Mohammed cartoons).

    Guyana — Muslim 10%

    India — Muslim 13.4%

    Israel — Muslim 16%

    Kenya — Muslim 10%

    Russia — Muslim 10-15%

You do post some utter drivel. So you want the Muslims to be seen as victims in all this. I see you still haven't researched the background of the Imam Rauf and the people he is associated with. Rather than accuse the media of fear mongering and spreading misinformation at least have the decency to research both sides of the issue rather than just posting the usual bukwas.

Side of what issue??? Should this have happened right after 9/11? This individual was hurt because he was Muslim. Not because he supported Imam Rauf. I must must must be missing something. According to all of India in the 1980's, Sikhs were terrorists. Did everyone have the right to stab the Sikh rickshaw-waalas?

How come all the Muslim bashers who like commenting on this blog have nothing to say about The Daily Show piece? Re: Imam Rauf, he is a Sufi, not exactly a radical Islamist or anything close. Quite the contrary. Check this out: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/17/opinion/17dalry… . I have many issues with the piece (namely its assumption that US imperialism is fine and dandy), but hopefully it can help debunk these ridiculous assertions about Rauf.

If a American is seen on street of Afghanistan/Iraq/Somalia/ what would be his fate !

Most SIKHS , HINDUS have left the war zone of Afghanistan even when they are not in this war.

The sufi guy could follow their example and return home or decide to stick around in USA depending on his courage and Americas hospitality.

Their is no answer which will please all of us.

Old laws will then be used to explain the mess the world is presently in

    1) "Might is right"

    2) "All is fair in love and war"

You guys seem to be going hyper over what could turn out to a massive own goal by a leftist idiot trying to give the impression that Muslims are attacked in America. It appears that the attacker is not some redneck but a left wing supporter of the Mosque who has worked with organisations that support the mosque. Read the wall street journal
    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703

For those like brooklywala who gets their 'hard' news from the daily show and are probably too lazy to read the whole article, the highly relevant piece is below;-

"On his Facebook page, Mr. Enright says that he has worked as a "cinematographer/photographer" with Intersections International since last August.

On its website, that organization describes itself as a "New York-based global initiative dedicated to promoting justice, reconciliation and peace across lines of faith, culture, ideology, race, class, national borders and other boundaries that divide humanity." The organization has publicly supported the proposed mosque near Ground Zero."

    • SSingh says:

How is his working for that kind of organization necessarily implicate that he wholeheartedly agrees with and subscribes to the organization's description? That the organization itself is legitimate?
I was hoping that you would give some better explanation, but you clearly are unable to think critically.

"A drunken film student who spent time in Afghanistan this year and volunteered with a group promoting religious tolerance allegedly slashed a Muslim taxi driver Tuesday in Manhattan, screaming the Arabic greeting "Assalamu Alaikum" and "consider this a checkpoint" before the attack, police said."

Read that part of the article again. And again. What part of you thinks that this is ok, justified, or even understandable in any kind of context? What piece of your analytical puzzle makes this not a situation in which Muslims are victimized? Help me to understand. You do a good job of evading actual discussion and instead prop up the usual Glen Beck-esque tropes.

And if they chose that site to set a precedent in order to reconcile the Muslim world and Western World, then its a utterly bad precedent and in bad taste.
