“We’ll Get You Married in Punjab”

A few weeks ago we posted about the issue of women in Punjab marrying men from outside of Punjab, to only be deserted by them after marriage. The post created a colorful (although often one-sided) dialogue about the issue.  While our response in the diaspora is significant and can often help initiate conversations and perhaps also change, it is the commentary by the community in Punjab which is hugely important.  The video below is one such response to the issue of seeking grooms from outside of Punjab. Is the value placed on sending young Punjabi women to the UK, US and Canada higher than ensuring their happiness?

Pretty sad to see that you still haven’t admitted your folly sundari.

Of course you and most of this thelangarhall.com crew seem to have it out against Sikhs.

“ From 2005 to 2008, as many as 22,000 men have ended their lives in reverse dowry harassment after allegedly being tormented by their wives. In contrast, dowry harassment has driven 6,800 women to suicide.”

The question is why do people migrate ?

    1) Money ::——– More in west than Punjab
    2) Education :—- More in west than Punjab
    3) Chics :———- More in west than Punjab
    4) Freedom to practise religion :- —-More in west than Punjab
    5) Born free feeling ( ? illusion) :——More in west than Punjab

To repeat the cliche "All is fair in love and War"

So enjoy the show and stop cribbing .

There are born to be looser and winners in this game of life.

Why do birds especially like to poop over harinder.

    Crap……attracts crap

Birds don’t want to get their nests dirty

Birds don’t have arms to throw it at him

The squirrels were tea bagging him with their nuts

why let them have all the fun.

No one can ensure happiness (divorce and domestic violence is common in this country, where most marriages are between people living in the same country…and both parties choose whom and when to marry), but you can ensure economic status/financial well-being. I think many parents are trying to secure what they can.

    Machismo,

The only pansies are you, sundari, reema, and jodha (harinder you don’t get counted as a fruit, since you’re more like corn in the large intestine).

Machismo, People like you keep blogging about nothing, at your best you’re blogs are gossip. You are lazy, and the subject matter suffers, innocent men and women get effected by your stubborn laziness, you help no one. And most of your subject matter is in reality about muslims, and hindus.

This is NOT a Progressive Sikh Site, but an Aggressive Site against Sikhs, meant to hurt the younger generation of Sikhs.

I have worked with Punjabi women who were abandoned, abused, forced into unjust labor, or deemed unworthy, after they moved to America to be with their husbands. I can't waste my time commenting on people that have no problem using and abusing people's lives for money. But I can comment on the many times men were coerced by their parents to go to Punjab and find a "good wife." After returning, they realized that this was not as easy as they initially figured. Had the men grown some balls and rejected the parents wishes, many women's lives could have been saved from crisis. Yes, its easier to do what your parents want you to do–at the time. But eventually, you do have to deal with the fact that your beliefs differ from those of your parents. Its not fair to make a life-long commitment to a woman or man…to have someone uproot themselves for you, simply because you're a pansy.
