Tom Mulcair Responds: Tells India he won’t be bullied and stands firm on 1984 Statement

Guest blogged by ResistSingh

amneet_620x270.pngEvery June and November, Sikhs in Canada (and globally) are curious to see what Canadian politicians will say about the tragedies of 1984.

Will they align themselves with the community and provide support and solidarity with the Sikhs as they come together to remember both the invasion and massacre of innocents inside the Darbar Sahib complex during the hot month of June; and then the senseless targeting, butchering, killing and raping of Sikhs during the November Sikh Genocide?

Although the answer is a no brainer to human rights activists, like many social justice issues they seem to be tough political decisions that attract countless discussions and debates amongst politicians and political parties about vote banks, international cooperation, trade relations, development, foreign policy and much more. That is why we have seen sporadic statements from the Liberals and Conservatives for November, rarely if ever for June and a lack of consistency.

I greatly appreciate any person, let alone a politician, who stands by solid principles, regardless of whether or not those principles will win brownie points with some of those with whom you will have to work with in your position within the government. I applaud him for his consistency with the previous stand of Jack Layton, the consistency certainly helps Sikhs to feel more secure in Canada. I am also appalled that India would try to be confrontive with him about his position, since it is consistent with that of his predecessor, and therefore should come as no surprise. As he stated so clearly and so eloquently, justice delayed is justice denied. Justice for the events in 1984 is so long overdue that we may as well ask India for a piece of Mars or Jupiter, for we can get that just as easily from the Government of India as we can get justice for the actions that took place in 1984, all at the instigation of the government and their henchmen. I still love India, I will always love India, but I have no respect for the government of India, and will never again be able to respect it's government, a government that can brutally assault people within a temple complex, kill a group of people with the clear objective of genocide in mind, and then deny, obscure facts, tell half-truths or outright lies and keep this nonsense going for almost 30 years, rather than seeking the truth and to restore balance and faith in the nation. This government is only compounding it's problems, and with almost one and a half billion people to govern, it will find that it is an impossible task now that it has lost the faith and respect of it's people.

I agree with you, justice has been denied for 1984 killings in Delhi and elsewhere but about as far as Op Blue star is concerned, why everyone glosses over what Bhindranwala was doing from within the scared precinct of Harimandir Sahib? Why all the killings by Sikh terrorists before and after 1984 are so conveniently pushed under the carpet and victim card is played by every Sikh politician, commentator. Since you are from Canada, you should be more concerned about denial of justice to the victims of Air India flight 182 bombed in 1985 by Khalistani brutes. Have you ever bothered to question those who eulogize mass murderers like Talwinder Parmar, Sukhdev Babbar, Bhindranwala, Rajoana, etc in Vaisakhi parades?
