Updated: Failed Assassination Attempt on Dera Sacha Sauda Cult Leader

Earlier today, Gurmeet Ram Rahim narrowly escaped an assassination attempt when someone from a truck passing by his motorcade threw an explosive object.

derasachasauda.jpgWhile members of his entourage were injured, the Dera Sacha Sauda leader walked away unscathed. The rumor mills are buzzing and expect the words RDX and Pakistan to soon circulate. What seems to be completely missing from the coverage in terms of the timing was the recent directive by the Punjab and Haryana High Court calling the state of Punjab not to file a chargesheet in the case registered against Gurmeet Ram Rahim at Bathinda a few weeks ago. Badal was using the Punjab and Haryana High Courts directive to wiggle himself out of upholding the Sikh masses pressure after the Jathedars had to call an emergency meeting last year at Takht Dam Dama Sahib announcing that if the Punjab Government failed to act, the Sikhs would be forced to act against the Dera and would commence all social boycott.

From newspaper reports, GT Road has been flooded with his followers and closed down. Unfortunately, expect clashes and a brutal random round up by the police within the next three days. (See earlier “joke” about this issue)

Update!

Two men, Mohinder Singh and Swaran Singh, have been apprehended in connection to Saturday’s failed assassination attempt against the Dera Sacha Sauda leader. Another man, Bakshish Singh, has been implicated and it is not yet known whether the police have already apprehended him or if he is eluding their capture. (One is never quite sure with the draconian Punjab Police)

Although the Indian press has been liberally using loaded terms such as “RDX,” “Pakistani-trained,” and “Sikh extremists,” the whole scenario seems rather half-baked. While some press outlets seem keen to exaggerate the crude methods as:

it was clear that the job was that of a highly trained person

Most are reporting that the the attempt was little more than two men rolling or throwing a tire with a small explosive at the oncoming traffic vehicles.

Unidentified persons from a truck parked on a highway on which the Dera chief’s cavalcade was passing, had thrown a tyre stuffed with explosives at one of the cars which burst into flames.

More updates may follow.

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ‘attack’ was arranged by the government to give them an excuse to interrogate/arrest/question the Sikhs who still have the movement etched into their minds. Did anyone see the family of one of the suspects (from Bathinda) and the state his family has been left in? Bhai Sahib had two young children and the entire family is in ruins already, and the interrogation on him and his family has barely started.

JSD, it’s easy to blab online and say we should pick up arms and start a revolution, but have you ever taken a moment to speak to those involved in the actual movement? Well, if you had you’d quickly realize how disheartened these people have become. The problem with this situation is that instead of formulating a plan and enacting it, everyone went psycho and raised their kirpans, holding meetings etc when they should’ve just kept quiet until the guy had been assassinated – but that’s not how we work nowadays.

Nevertheless, besides the corrupt Gurdwara committees (the SGPC has a bigger budget than the Punjab Government) all hope doesn’t seem to be lost. People forget how educated Bhai Sukha Ji and Bhai Jinda Ji were, and it’s impossible to hear Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu Ji speak (in Punjabi or English!) without wanting to strap up and follow his lead. But then again, he himself (the person who lead the movement from Pakistan for over 10 years) has said that the times have changed and they need a political movement and only when this means fails other alternatives would be considered.

The vast majority of people who flock to Sacha Sauda are low-caste, uneducated Sikhs/Hindus/Muslims who have been denounced by their religious leaders due to the poverty they were born into. This guy’s telling them something that the Gurdwaras are not, so they seek sanctuary from him and over time it’s grown at a ridiculous rate.

Finally, Punjab is in ruins. Badal himself gave the dera the land which they used to administer ‘amrit,’ intimating MY father, OUR father – Sri Dasmesh Patshah, and for that alone he and his entire family-tree should pay the consequences, without a doubt. But, after the Panth went buckwild and let the world know how pissed they were it was too late because his security had increased ten-fold, and in reality, it’s near impossible for anyone from the ‘outside’ to get close to this guy now, it’s not looking good at all.

JSD, if you really breathe the movement like you say you do (and don’t just talk it online) you’d know Jathedhar Ranjit Singh Ji’s masterplan and how he got into the Narinkaris headquarters and took care of business like our older shaheeds would be proud of (Bhai Mehtab Singh Ji, Bhai Sukha Singh Ji etc). But unfortunately, people just run their mouths 24/7 without taking a second to connect the dots and over time, develop a clearer picture.

Btw, regarding the Sant-Sipahi topic, it’s impossible to be anything close to Guru Ji’s sipahi until you’ve reached Sant status. Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji was BABA Deep Singh Ji wayyyy before achieving shaheedi at Amritsar and it was his unparalleled spiritual strength that enabled him to fight on (even after decapitation!). It’s easy to say we’re warriors (blah, blah, blah) but a HUGE level of spiritual kamai has to be there too. Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji used to do 51 Sri Jaap Sahibs and 31 Sri Japji Sahibs just at Amrit Vela alone…

Thank you, this is part of what I was saying as well. It is the fact that our community and gurdwaras alienate members of OUR community that makes it so simple to turn to deras. Our actions as a community and individuals enable these deras.

I am in the boat of believers that awareness, education and an improved lifestyle will contribute in starting a plan of action.

I think that the followers that trail after these deras are doing so because they are finding something major lacking in their lives, lifestyles, and faith. The lack of faith, in my opinion, is because there is not a solid belief and understanding of gurbani, and possibly not an established relationship with gurbani and many of these followers. I believe that once our community actually addresses the social issues and turmoil that these families are going through we will see a decline in the rise of these deras.

We sit here and wonder things like, why do they not turn to gurbani and the teachings of the gurus. Again, I am not disagreeing with this statement, instead I am asking what ELSE can we do to help them regain, understand, and be committed to teachings of their gurus? In my opinion, it is the start to solve these economic and social issues that are perpetuated by a people that has been alienated and abused by ‘their’ govt. Action starts at education, action starts at economic assistance (REAL econ assistance, not high interest loans they will never be able to repay), action starts at paying attention to the suicides. 14. […] Random incidents occur in Punjab. Just last month we saw 2 Sikhs roll a tire with a grenade at the DSS motorcade. Despite people that will accuse me of naivete, I think I have some insight into this matter. There will be individuals that act out of their own feelings and sentiments. To believe that some concerted effort with Pakistani, Al-Qaida, or other boogeymen either means these Sikh groups are extremely inept or shows that these are in fact individual efforts. The problem is that people that have old ties claim credit for anything and everything that occurs. They do this believing that through this ‘credit’ they will be able to financially capitalize. Those days are over. Stop claiming credit. You didnt do anything. You had no role, stop claiming it. […]
