Police Patrol by Delhi Sultanate and Sukhmani Malik

In light of the Indian government’s response to this past weekend’s bombings in Delhi, this video seems especially poignant (not to mention sweeet!).

Thus far, the Indian government’s strong-arm tactics haven’t worked and have only led to more bombings.

The Indian Mujahideen … claimed that the Delhi blasts were the direct result of the raids carried out before and after the Ahmedabad blasts on July 26. “This accurately planned deadly strike is just another reaction to all those pre-and post-26 July harassments imposed by your ATS and police on the innocent Muslims,” the Indian Mujahideen said. (Though the Indian Mujahideen’s underlying grievances stem from the demolition of the Babri Masjid, Amarnath land transfer controversy, and 2002 Gujurat “riots”, among other things.) [link]

But in case you want to hold on to hope that the government might be able to competently respond to the threat of additional attacks on civilians without additionally fueling communal tensions, there was at least one reasonable response–from Pratap Bhanu Mehta, a political scientist who opposes POTA/TADA like-laws:

So many obvious things to be done, creating cross-party structures to evolve a shared understanding of the problem, better coordination between the Centre and the states, legal reform, more imaginative forms of engagement with different communities to enlist their proactive help in defusing this phenomenon. 1. Indian government has improved their security strength more than previous years. Bombing in Delhi, Mumbai has given great concern to Indian people as well other foreign citizens. Nowadays bombing risk is vastly reduced and such type of criminal activities hopefully not going to happen again. Thanks.
