When the police first arrived they went by their statistical data, which suggested to them that 90% of these cases are of runaways, and the police were suggesting she would probably be back by nightfall.

The parents and family were frantic for help.

They knew she did not fit into any of the categories the police were suggesting. Karamjit Kaur was relatively new to the country, she didnt have alot of friends, much less a boyfriend. She was learning to ride a bike, which she only rod in front of their home.

Amber Alert wasn't allowed to be used because they stated that there was no physical description of a vehicle given, although her unique ethnic appearance should have beenused as a distinctive feature to be on the look out for.

The following is a link to the national sex offender registry provided its called

    http://www.familywatchdog.us

It would be a good place to query who may live close by that would commit this crime.

Members of the family should use whats under the sun, and in the Universe to find her, I would go as far contacting people with unique abilities in these matters, even if they can get a general vicinity to search.

Thank heavens we had our son call the police when he told us about this man coming to see her every day at school, I believe this has more to do with them sneaking off and nothing about race. The police followed the lead given by our son and found her within 24 hours.

The brother in-laws own wife is 6 months pregnaut, and he still never thought about her before abducting his sister in-law. I'm sorry it's not an race issue, it's more like a "Family" issue now, I bet the "Abduction was preplan because her bike was found afew blocks away, where as she use to ride her bike in front of her house.
Now that Karamjit Kaur has been found her beloved brother in-law will go to jail for abducting a "minor" and
her family will have to live with this "Shamefull Truth the rest of their lives in the "Great City of Reno"!!!!!!!!!!
The good moral of this Story is Atleast she was found "Alive" but the "Sad Part" is her family has to face
the shamefull fact that she was alive with her own brother in-law shacked up in a "Hotel Room"………

  19. billy says:

They found her "Alive" in Indiana with none other than her own brother in-law in a "Hotel Room"
her brother in-law is a Truck Driver with all the leeds RPD (Reno Police Dept) did a "Excelent Job" in finding the "Sikh Girl" Karamjit Kaur.
What the brother in-law did is a very sick & disgasted thing abducted her and doing things to her his way
in a hotel room in Indiana, the fault is bothside the girl (karamjit kaur) should have known whats up when her brother in-law kept coming to visit her in her School every single day!

The sad part of this story is this that,Billy & Jatti jumped the gun & made it an ethnic/racial issue. As for shacking up with her brother-in-law,it is a common practice in the great punjabi culture, have'nt you guys heard of Jija-Sali,Deor-Bharjai episodes.Sikhs should at least stop projecting themselves morally superior to anybody and start looking inwards for their failiures and drawbacks.

I was worried too. But sad story for the family.

Sikhs religion and Culture are two different things. Punjabi culture is mix of Hindu and Muslim culture and Guru ji Nanak and others Gurus tried to change that with a new relgion.

Please donot mix relgion and culture

What was the Brother-in-law thinking? A@@H%L#!!! He is 29. Supposedly grown up?

She is only 16. A young adult (kid)! Not old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. I hope the community rallies around the family for strenth and self-cinfidence. I hope the girl recovers from this trauma and gets her education to stand on her own feet. So much muturity is required on part of the community, especially the older folks. It's the gossip in the community – the Horror show!

Sks and Billy are still worried about the gossip & shame that will be faced by the girls family. The end result of this whole sordid episode will be to save face, the least the parents can do is to marry the girl as soon as possible, the worse will be somebody will attempt an honour k—–g.The dude who did this will come on top because punjabi/sikh culture & religion place a premium on males. After facing the legal consequences he will most certainly threaten to seperate from his wife & that will bring his in laws to there senses,it happens everyday in punjabi/sikh families.

For everybody out there espically Roger Magat there is a total difference between a Sikh person and a Punjabi. If you don't know you only become a true Sikh by being baptised into Sikhi not just because you have a Punjabi name and and Singh or Kaur attachted to your name. Sikh is a religion different than all religion's if you were to carefully evaulate it compared to religions out there Sikhi is the only religion that gives women the same honor as men tell me which other religion does this?? Don't go around bad mouthing Sikhi before you even learn anything about it, its pretty bad when ur own parents name u "Roger" a white name u can tell they don't know there religion at all so don't even call urself a Sikh if ur not baptized. Do u or ur parents even know the 10 gurus names? Do u even know what Sikhs have not only done for Hindu's as well as Muslims? We have tried to tell people there is 1 god and we all believe in him 1 way or another, go ask ur parents why u gotta white name with brown skin?

If you are ticked off by my name because it sounds white, man you are wrong my parents did not give me my name i gave it.I did not include sikhi in this blog, somebody named phulkari put the heading punjabi sikh girl missing.Do not worry i know the name of all 10 gurus who by the way were all hindu khatris. As for baptism it is just a ceremony,as for 1 god all the semitic theologies as well as indic theologies believe in 1 god/creator long before there was a sect named sikhism. As for being punjabi & sikh read your history, your last guru was not even punjabi,by birth he was a bihari & by vitue of his death he was a maharashtrian.Do not be a fanatic otherwise your own intolerance will consume you.

Folks-Let's focus on the topic at hand rather than going on tangents (i.e. the origin of Roger Mangat's name or figuring out what each other's temperature are on the Sikhi thermometer).

Karamjit has been found and her family, friends, and Reno community supporters are relieved that she is alive. If we want to discuss race, ethnicity, and cultural issues impacting this case, let's do it in a respectful and mature manner. Otherwise, this thread will be closed.

Roger, i think you need to focus as your own path/beleifs and stop wasting your time trying to educate Sikhs on their faith. By the way, which you clearly know nothing about.

Your intentions are malicious and you most definitely have an agenda. Thus far, you have brought nothing to any debate you've had so far, solely due to the fact you know nothing about Gurmat. As a Punjabi, you have assumed that Sikhi and Punjabi culture are one and the same; Well they're not!

Back to the topic at hand, I'm glad that the girl is back safe and sound!

We pray to Our Almighty Father Lord Waheguru Jee to shower his blessings of some intellect and wisdom upon you. You certainly appear to be quite disillusioned about the Sikh way of life. For your assistance Waheguru means – Wonderous Destroyer of Darkness. There's no such thing as Sikhism it's actually a Sikh Way of Life (Marg- Rasta) We don't know who added these ism's !!!

Anyway we are living in a society where ignorance and prejudice is at rife. However we agree with you that people should have waited before making any kind of suggestions that may have escalated racial tensions in that region.

As far as your issue of highlighting the fact that all Sikhs aren't good is correct.

This applies not only to the turban wearing Sikhs but to us all as we, are all human beings and do make mistakes.

Regarding what happened to this girl, what her brother-in-law did was disgraceful and he should be condemned.

Take Care and remember – Hum Nahin Changey Bura Nahin Kooey.

Wow, what's with the Roger bashing? He does know what he is talking about to a degree. Before the partition, when Pakistan was a part of India the was a huge area called Punjab. In this area there were Muslims, and Hindus. Sikhism was derived by Guru Nanak (a teacher) who wanted to get rid of some horrible customs such as inbreeding (Muslims) and the caste system (Hindu)…hmm yes not everybody is perfect after all we are all human and regardless of what is taught cultures sometimes dictate and over-ride what we know is right.
If I remember correctly one of the things the Gurus taught was Equality of man and woman of all religions and races or creeds. We, as Sikhs (yes the religion and the people because we are born before we are baptized and can choose not to be) forget all the time about equality, otherwise why do we have a patriarchal society where man feels he needs to be superior to woman and bashes her around (culture not religion).
Yes, I do know what I am taking about; I was baptized at a young age but didn't follow it. I did know the Gurus and appreciate the fact the complied an advanced religion that we don't know about and choose to pick what we want to learn. In my life time I have had enough Part (prayers and religion bashed in my brain). I don't practice everything just like you but I am a Sikh, a learner who willingly teaches myself all the time. Just because you are baptized doesn't make you better or know everything (seriously look at the pedophile Catholic priests).
So yeah, in a nutshell I get where Roger comes from and don't bash him on his name; why does it bother some of you? The Gurus preached Equality and tolerance….so should you. Yeah, I know I am about 30+ weeks late…hehehehehe

  50. i wish i knew sikhi, but when both parents are hard work to provide us with food, and we going to nursery/school/college it is very hard to learn, we picked up whatever we could about sikh.
