Sikhs that Shoot
Abhinav Bindra was considered a child prodigy, but has had limited success on the largest competitive stages. Still he is considered a medal hopeful.
Bindra will be competing in the 10m air rifle competition. Qualifications and the finale will all be on Day 3 (Monday, August 11, 2008) in the afternoon
Mansher Singh (maybe Sikh?) also qualified for the Olympics after a nerve-wracking tie-shoot at the ISSF World Cup in Italy.
Mansher Singh will be competing in the Trap competition on Day 2 (Sunday, August 10, 2008) around noon.
Manavjit Singh Sandhu has had much previous success at past international competitions, but the Olympic medals have allueded him. He was bronze in the Men’s Trap at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and has had
a number of other fine finishes including 4 gold medals at the Asian Clay Shooting Championships. Here is a picture of Manavjit with his proud father.
Manavjit Singh will be competing in the Trap competition on Day 2 (Sunday, August 10, 2008) around noon.
Avneet Kaur Sidhu is our sole female Singhni/Kaur shooter. She has been featured on a previous post here on The Langar Hall. Avneet hails from Bathinda and will be competing in the 10m Air Rifle and the 50m rifle - three positions.
Avneet’s 10m Air Rifle competition will be on Day 3 (Monday, August 11, 2008) in the morning and her 50 m rifle - three positions event will be on Day 6 (Thursday, August 14, 2008).

Avneet finished 39th out of 64 in the 10m Air Rifle, shooting a disappointing 389 out of 400. A perfect score was achieved by gold medal winning Czech, Katerina Emmons.

Gold for Abhinav! The Chandigarh-based shooter had an amazing performance. (1st gold individual medal for India ever)
Abinav’s father claims “Singh is King” (this is never going to die, is it?)
Not such a great Trap performance for Mansher and Manavjit.

congraulate mr. bindra for winning the gold medal [deleted]
[The conversation of who is a Sikh and who is not a Sikh is endless. This particular post is meant to celebrate Abhinav's achievement, not comment upon his religiousity. If you insist upon asserting yourself as the judge of Abhinav's Sikhi (or lack of it), then find another forum to post it. The conversation of cultural and religious identity is frequently discussed on The Langar Hall. If you wish to make a point, be eloquent and do it on those posts....Admin Singh]

[Intrepid, as you do not know Abhinav, you are not speaking facts, only conjectures. Plus a patit is only those that transgress specific taboos once they have received Khanda da Pahul. If a person has never made such a promise they cannot be a 'renegade.' Regarding your request, here you go. But as far as this strain of conversation - again off topic, again deleted.... Admin Singh ]
